Lew Aerospace
designs and manufactures radomes for customers in the
aerospace, telecommunications, electronics and other
industries. Radomes are precision engineered weatherproof
enclosures used to protect antennas (for e.g., communications
transceivers or radar dish antennas).
Radomes are used
to protect the surfaces of the antenna from the effects of
weather, including rain, sand, and ice. When used as a
covering for radar dish antennas, the radome also protects the
sensitive antenna from debris and rotational irregularities
due to wind. When used on UAVs or other aircraft, in
addition to such protection, the radome also streamlines the
antenna system, thus reducing drag. On stationary
antennas, excessive amounts of ice and other similar
weathering can actually de-tune the antenna to the point where
its impedance at the input frequency rises dramatically
causing its voltage standing wave ratio to increase and the
reflected power comes back to the transmitter where it may
cause significant overheating. Thus, radomes are a
critical and important part of the overall antenna system’s
design and functioning. Lew Aerospace’s radomes are
specifically designed to maximize the performance and overall
operational functioning of sophisticated communication and
radar systems.
